Welcome to the

Virtual Willington Arts Festival

Barbara Wain

The Virtual Willington Arts Festival has always been very much a "work in progress" as it has evolved over the year and we receive pictures and ideas from the community of artists and friends who live in and  around Willington.

Initially we invited you to send us your photos of artwork (paintings or drawings etc), arts and crafts, textiles, pottery, sculpture, and photography to fill our exhibition pages, expanding this to entries of creative writing, especially from the younger members of the community, with a limit of 250 words

People we asked to submit up to three entries (per category) with the intention of cutting this number back as the entries grew ... but we have managed to include all entries, expanding the web page to its limit.

This is not a sales platform for artists but is intended to be an everchanging display of the villages artistic skills, a challenge to the organisers to keep it interesting and fresh and to the community to keep those pages filled with new artwork and ideas.

We have been grateful for all your entries and amazed at the range and depth of talent that exists in the local community. We hope that you have all enjoyed taking part whether by entering your work or just viewing ..... we hope that next year we can stage the Arts Festival for real and not have to rely on digital technology to celebrate the talent of the community.

Please note that this is an evolving web site and will be subject to change on a weekly basis, so please keep visiting to see how the festival art progresses.

It also represents a steep learning curve for the site manager so apologies are offered in advance for any glitches that might occur with the presentation of artwork.

This year we had plans for a stall and art activity at the Village Carnival, and an Arts Festival Weekend in September, as well as a classical concert and we hoped to announce the return of the Hot House Big Band to Willington in October.

But, most of the organisers are locked in for some time so for this year, unless things change, it will be "Art On Line" only !

The Willington Arts Festival, established in 2008, has become a popular event in the South Derbyshire events calendar. Enjoyed by visitors and artists alike. Now in it's 11th year we feel it is time to make a few changes ... it will still have an emphasis on introducing people to the arts and new ideas .... just in a slightly different way.

Willington is located just 8 miles south west of Derby at the junction of the A1532 and B5008, only two minutes off the A38/A50 junction. Post code (for SatNav) is DE65 6BP, but this year what you will need is our website and mailing address.
